Fire Reaction Performance Classes
The fire safety level of cables is measured by the fire reaction performance classes determined under the CPR regulation. These classes are assessed according to criteria such as flammability, smoke spread, dripping particles and acidity levels. Within the scope of the CPR, cables are divided into the following fire reaction performance classes:
In addition to these classifications s1/s2/s3 (smoke formation), d0/d1/d2 (burning droplets) and a1/a2/a3 Additional criteria such as (acidity level) are also evaluated.
CPR compliance of cables is determined by the following tests:
- Combustion Test (EN 50399) – Flame spread, heat release and smoke production are measured.
- Single Flame Test (EN 60332-1-2) – The cable's behavior against a small flame source is tested.
- Smoke Density Test (EN 61034-2) – Visibility reduction is determined by measuring the optical density of the smoke.
- Halogen Gas Content Test (EN 60754-2) – The acidity and conductivity levels of the gases produced during combustion are analyzed.
